'The Ultimate Edit' page
I was so excited to be returning to Closer Magazine's offices and
leaving my current crappy part-time job behind for a week of unpredictable
surprises.
As I set up at the desk my eyes laid upon a hand over note from
the acting deputy style editor, the lovely Matilda. "Can you start working
on 'The Ultimate Edit' sunglasses feature please? It'll run in June". O.M.G!
Now, I know some of you are thinking 'pfft big deal', but for someone
who wants to work in magazines, well excuse me it is! I've never been asked to
create my own page before and I needed it to be absolutely perfect. But more
importantly impress Matilda.
To those of you who don't know what Closer's 'Ultimate Edit' page
looks like...
You're now probably thinking "that's pretty straight
forward", yes to be honest that's what I was thinking too. WRONG. While it
was fun, it was also really challenging.
Essentially, I was online shopping for
hours trying to find the best sunglasses, eating free biscuits and drinking tea
(the absolute dream). But then I have to think 1. Are these sunglasses going to
be available in June? 2. Just because you like them Bry doesn't mean all the
Closer readers will and 3. What can I actually
say about 10 pairs of sunglasses?!
Finding nine pairs was pretty easy, but my
10th pair literally took me two days (don't ask why). I mainly wrote
things like 'this pair is the pool party go-to', to then discover Closer's
readers are actually old not young! Lets
hope they go to a few pool parties then...
The most important thing I discovered was
how important it is to be objective. You aren't just writing for you, you are
the voice for others. We'll just have to wait till June to see if Matilda liked
what I did.
